Prof. Sugata Gangopadhyay

Prof. Sugata Gangopadhyay completed his Masters and Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur in 1993 and 1998, respectively. He is a professor in the department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. In the past he has been affiliated to BITS Pilani, IIT Kharagpur, Indian Statistical Institute.
Prof. Gangopadhyay’s area of interest is Boolean functions and their applications. He has researched on Boolean functions with cryptographic significance. He has constructed a new class of optimally non-linear Boolean functions called bent functions and proposed normality-based attacks on stream ciphers that are used for benchmarking the security of stream ciphers. He has implemented the Department of Science and Technology sponsored international collaborative projects with Japan, Slovenia, and Belarus during the last fifteen years. He is a co-chief investigator of the project “Design and Development of Quantum Computing Toolkit (Simulator, Workbench) and Capacity Building” that is funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology India. Prof. Gangopadhyay was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2016 by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. He is serving in the program committee of NSUCRYPTO the International Students’ Olympiad in Cryptography organized by Novosibirsk State University, Russia.
