Prof. Soumyo Moitra
Visiting Scientist, IAI
Soumyo Moitra has extensive experience in modeling, research methodology, cybersecurity and data analytics. For the last several years, he has worked on research projects in a number of areas in cybersecurity developing metrics to measure network traffic patterns, modeling the vulnerabilities eco-system, and assessing potential weaknesses in network inventory of organizations. He has developed a number of metrics to characterize network traffic patterns over time. He has explored a variety of methodologies to evaluate the performance of cybersecurity systems in terms of quantifying their mitigation effectiveness. He has also developed models and metrics to evaluate cybersecurity systems from a cost-effectiveness point of view, and is exploring the potential of AI to enhance cybersecurity analysis.
Previously, he was a Professor at IIM Calcutta where he taught Operations Management, Marketing Models, Management of Technology and Simulation. Before that he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Communication Research, New Jersey, USA for many years. He has published many articles in operations research, management science, technology management, applied statistics, telecommunications and network security in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of INFORMS and has presented papers regularly at conferences on business analytics, cybersecurity and modeling methodology. He is a member of Sigma XI: The Research Society and a former member of the American Statistical Association. He has a B.Sc. in Applied Physics from the University of Sussex, an MA in Research Methods from Cornell, an MS in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in Policy Analysis from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany and was a Visiting Professor at NTT, Japan. He has been a Senior Member of Technical Staff at CERT, Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University since 2008.
