Global Conference for Decarbonization of Energy and Materials (GCDEM), 2024 has honored Dr. Ananya Banik, Senior Research Scientist at the Research Institute of Sustainable Energy (RISE), TCG CREST, Kolkata with the prestigious Young Scientist Award. This award, presented by the NTU Alumni Association, recognizes her significant research contributions in the field of energy conversion and storage systems, particularly focusing on clean and renewable energy solutions. Dr. Banik was one of only eight young researchers globally to receive this honor this year.

Dr. Banik is a solid-state chemist who received her Ph.D. in thermoelectrics from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre For Advanced Scientific Research in Bangalore from Prof. Kanishka Biswas’s research group. Her pioneering work on developing lead-free thermoelectric materials has advanced the understanding and design of thermoelectric materials for mass-market applications. She was awarded the KPIT Shodh Best Thesis Award for her contributions to thermoelectric material design.

Following her Ph.D., Dr. Banik moved to Germany to work with Prof. Wolfgang Zeier’s research group, where she contributed to the design of solid electrolytes for solid-state batteries. She has been honored with the Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship in recognition of her exceptional research.

Currently, Dr. Ananya Banik is focusing her research on the design of low-cost solid electrolytes and studying thermal transport in battery materials. Her work aims to develop high-capacity batteries with enhanced long-term stability and improved thermal stability, addressing key challenges in the field of energy storage. Through this innovative research, she is contributing to the advancement of next-generation battery technologies that could offer greater efficiency and reliability for various applications.

We are immensely proud of Dr. Banik’s scientific achievements and this well-deserved international recognition!
