Assistant Professor

Welcome to the world of cutting-edge energy storage research with Dr. Kingshuk Roy, an innovative assistant professor dedicated to pushing the boundaries of chemistry and materials science. Dr. Roy’s journey in the realm of scientific exploration began with a strong academic and research foundation with a master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune where he worked with Prof. Satishchandra Ogale and Prof. Ramanathan Vaidhyanathan

Dr. Roy’s Ph.D. research was marked by inventive work on designing and synthesizing novel electrode materials for lithium and sodium-ion batteries. His innovative approach spanned organic-inorganic hybrid systems, various oxides, sulphides, carbides, and advanced alloy systems. He has also worked on supercapacitors, focusing on flexible all-solid-state micro-supercapacitors, and collaborated with industries like KPIT to develop Na-ion batteries for electric buses.

His research excellence opened doors to prestigious international collaborations. Dr. Roy conducted significant research at the University of Edinburgh, the University of Swansea, and the University of Cambridge, supported by the Indo-UK Education Research Initiative (UKIERI) and Newton Prize fund. His active participation in the Indo-UK SUNRISE program exemplifies his commitment to revolutionizing energy storage solutions.

Following his Ph.D., Dr. Roy’s academic journey continued at Purdue University, where he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Chemistry. Under the mentorship of Prof. Jeffrey E. Dick, Dr. Roy’s research delved into fundamental electrochemistry, exploring electrode-electrolyte interphases and interfaces for both aqueous and non-aqueous metal batteries.

Dr. Roy has delivered several invited talks at renowned institutions such as Washington State University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Indian Institute of Science along with multiple highly recognized international conferences and workshops. He holds several patents and high-impact publications in leading scientific journals. His contributions to the field have been recognized with awards like the Young Scientist Award from Purdue University and multiple travel and research grants.

In addition to his research, Dr. Roy is committed to education and mentorship. He has guided several undergraduate and graduate students, fostering the next generation of scientists and engineers. His expertise in advanced materials design, electrochemical characterizations, and battery fabrication positions him as a leader in the field of energy storage.
